One of the Largest Collections of Ebooks – Project Gutenberg

Finding your books online is becoming more and more popular. Whether you are looking for something that you can read online or print off, or if you want a great reading option for your ebook reader or other mobile device, you may want to consider looking into the Gutenberg Project.

This website allows readers to find many books for free. You can download these works to your computer or mobile device, or sometimes even just read them online. Project Gutenberg was actually the first collection of ebooks, and is still today considered one of the most famous and largest collections.

It does not matter the language that you read. Project Gutenberg has books in a variety of different languages. You will be surprised at the options you will find. You can also find books of all different genres.

Project Gutenberg is a place that you can go to get free ebooks. They do have the option to donate, if you would like. You can even donate your time, if this is something that you are more comfortable with than donating money. Though donations are in no way necessary, they do help the site continue to function correctly.

At Project Gutenberg, you can find books of all sorts. If you know what you are looking for, you can do a search for that specific book. Otherwise, you can do a search for keywords, or just browse through what is available. Another option is to look at some of their lists. For example, there is a top 100 ebooks from Yesterday. This will show you the most popular books downloaded yesterday, and how many times they were downloaded. More books are being added all the time, so if you are unable to find exactly what you want, don’t worry. Check back later – you may just find the perfect reading option.

Finding Free Ebooks

A large number of people today are starting to become more interested in ebooks as a way to read. They are undoubtedly a lot less bulky than carrying around a paper book. You can generally have hundreds, if not thousands of books on your mobile device, so you will never be wondering where you left your book, or not have something on hand to read next. With the ebook craze has come a variety of ways to read these books. From your computer or laptop to your ebook reader, and even some smart phone, you can find the ability to read ebooks almost anywhere.

One thing that many people are looking for when they start looking into ebooks is the price. They don’t want to spend a ton of money on something that they don’t have the physical copy of. There are many options for getting free ebooks online. In fact, many books that are now public domain are now available for free in many places online. If you are looking for some free ebooks, there are options as to where exactly to go.

Amazon: Almost everyone knows that Amazon.com is a great place to get ebooks. You can get many of the classics, and sometimes other genres for free on Amazon. Browsing through their library can be time consuming, but worth it.

Barnes and Noble: Again, this is a great place to get the classics. You probably won’t find much more than that for free at Barnes and Noble, but it is worth the look.

FreeBookSpot: With this website, you can get a variety of great ebooks for free. They have 96 different categories, with nearly 5000 free books available.

These, of course, are just a few options. There are so many websites today offering free ebooks that it would be impossible to mention them all. With so many options, though, you are sure to find a great free ebook to read.

The Battle of the Free Ebook – Amazon vs Barnes and Noble

Almost everyone who is considering getting an ebook has heard of the major ebook retailers. The two biggest competitors out there for ebooks are Amazon and Barnes and Noble. Both of these companies offer a huge variety of books for your ebook reader, and they both even offer free options. When looking at these retailers, one thing that many people compare is not the regular priced books – these will be approximately the same price no matter where you go. Instead, they compare the variety and availability of the free books.

Amazon – At Amazon.com, you can get a huge variety of free ebooks. They have two sections of free ebooks. There is the Limited Time Promotional Offers, and the Kindle Popular Classics. There are well over 100 options for newer books in the limited time offers. They are only free for a short time, though, and are always changing out. So, if you can’t find something that you want there today, check back in a few day; you might find something great. In the section, Kindle Popular Classics, you will find exactly what the title says – classics. These are generally public domain titles, and some of the most famous works of our time. There are well over 16,000 options in this category, because there are different printings and varieties of many of these classic stories.

Barnes and Noble – Barnes and Noble does not categorize their free ebooks as well as Amazon does, but they still have a huge variety of free ebooks. They also have the classics that are now public domain, but they also have a large variety of other books as well. There is everything from romance novels to informational books on language phrases and fun trips. Though these are a little more difficult to sort through, you will find that it is well worth your time, if you are looking for something great to read without the price tag.

The Amazon Kindle – An Overview

The Amazon Kindle is one of the most popular ebook readers there is today. There are a few different varieties of the Kindle, so it is easy to find exactly what you want in your ebook reader. As of December 2010, there are currently three different styles of the Amazon Kindle available.

Kindle Wi-Fi: This is the cheapest option for the Kindle. It currently is selling for $139 on Amazon’s website. It has a 6″ diagonal display, and uses the E Ink Pearl technology. It only weighs 8.5 ounces, and can hold up to 3,500 books with its built in memory. This ebook reader offers wi-fi, but not 3G wireless.

Kindle 3G + Wi-Fi: Considered the mid grade level of the Kindle readers, this ebook reader has very similar specs to the Kindle Wi-Fi. There are a few differences, though. It weighs 8.7 ounces. It also has the wi-fi capabilities, but also has free 3g wireless. It also has coverage in over 100 countries. This option currently runs you about $189.

Kindle DX: The largest of the Kindle readers, the display size on this reader is 9.7″ diagonally. This reader weighs in at 18.9 ounces, and also can carry 3,500 books. It has the other features of the Kindle 3G + Wi-Fi. The Kindle DX sells for $379.

Many people find the Kindle to be one of the best ebook readers there is, if not the absolute best. The E Ink Pearl technology makes it more like reading a book than reading a screen, which is much easier on the eyes. You can also get Kindle apps for your smart phone, computer, and other mobile devices. With the Kindle, you are able to get ebooks in different formats, as well. You can use the Kindle format, TXT, JPEG, PDF, and more. This means that you are not only limited to the books you can get on Amazon’s website.

Barnes and Noble Nook – An Overview

The Barnes and Noble Nook is an extremely popular option for ebook readers. People like the fact that they have a reliable, household name behind their electronic devices. These ebook readers have been shown to work well for those who are looking to get a reliable ebook reader that works great for them. There are currently, as of December 2010, three varieties of the Nook available.

Nook Wi-Fi: This is available for $149 through Barnes and Noble’s website, or in store. It has a display size of 6″ diagonal. It uses the E Ink Vizplex technology for the books, which makes it less like reading a computer screen, and more like a book. It has Wi-Fi available, but unfortunately for some, does not have 3G capabilities. The internal memory of this ebook reader is 2GB, which can hold up to 1,500 books, but it can be expanded with a micro SD card up to 16GB. This reader weighs in at 11.6 oz.

Nook 3G + Wi-Fi: This reader has many of the same specifications as the Nook Wi-Fi. It has the same screen size and E Ink technology. It does offer free 3G connections, where the other does not. This option is a little heavier at 12.1 oz, and will cost about $199.

NookColor: The newest addition to the Nook family, the NookColor has a few more features than the older models. It costs $249 currently. It has a 7″ diagonal display, and uses the VividView Color display, instead of the E Ink. The NookColor offers Wi-Fi, but not 3G wireless. The internal memory of this reader is 8GB, which allows up to 6,000 books, and it can expand up to 32GB. There are audio and Read to Me options with this reader, as well. It weighs in at 15.8 oz.

With the variety of books available, and the name behind the reader, many people are most comfortable with the Nook as their ebook reader.

Options for Finding the Books you Love

There are so many sources today to find the books that you want to read. No matter what kind of book you are looking for, you are most likely going to be able to easily find it in a variety of different places. Where are some places you might find your books?

Of course, there is the traditional bookstore. There are many different bookstores out there, and some are specific to different areas. At these bookstores, you are likely to find what you are looking for, and you will almost always pay full price for it. Many of these bookstores have rewards programs or similar options to get a certain percent off of their books, or even get different coupons throughout the year.

Many people today overlook used bookstores, though this should not be the case. In many cases, the books that you get at these stores are in decent to very good condition, and you can get them at a fraction of the price of a chain bookstore. Going into a used bookstore with the same amount of money as you would at a traditional bookstore will allow you to get many more books than you would.

A free option to get your books would be to head to the library. Many times, people will only read something once, so they feel that there is no real reason to actually purchase it. This is where libraries come in handy. You can find exactly what you want, and the only time you should have to pay anything is if your books become over due. There is also a huge variety of books at libraries, and you may even find some that you can’t find at bookstores.

Another option is to find your books online. You can frequently find the same books that you would in the library or a bookstore. If you don’t have a mobile device, you can frequently download them to your computer.

Learn to Read Books for Children

Many young children today are learning to read. In fact, it has been said by some that we are teaching our children to read at a younger age than ever before. With so many resources and options available, this is not extremely surprising.

In preschool, many children are getting the “learn to read” books. These books help not only foster a love of reading in the children, but also help them learn how to read. Many times, it is a fun daily activity for these children to read their books. These books start out with simple words and concepts for the child to understand. They also have a lot of pictures, that show what the books is saying. This is a great way for young children to start understanding how the words and the concepts go together. Of course, as most understand, the child needs to have a basic understanding of the alphabet and what letters make what sounds, to be able to start reading these books.

For many children today, electronics are the way to go. Luckily for a lot of parents, there are now ebooks and options online for their children to learn to read. If you have an ebook reader, or a plug in on your computer for ebooks, this is also an option. If you don’t want to worry about the possibility of a book getting destroyed or lost, then heading to the Internet for your child’s reading is a good idea.

In fact, you can frequently find the exact same books that your child’s school is using, in ebook format. This makes it so that you can work with them at home, even if they are not able to bring the books home. You are also able to branch out in what they read, without having to make multiple trips to the bookstore.

Using a Word a Day Program to Help Your Vocabulary

If you are looking to extend your vocabulary, there are a ton of free, fun ways to do this. Some come in the form of games, others are a little more basic. You can find online games, as well as board or flash card games that teach you new words, and the correct way to use them. The most popular method of expanding your vocabulary, though, is using a word a day program.

There are many options for a word a day program. There are many that you can sign up for online. These will email you daily the word for the day, what it means, and what context is best to use it in. Then you will be challenged to use that word through the day, at some point. This is a great way to learn new words. Even places like dictionary.com and merriam-webster.com have word of the day programs. These allow you to find words that you never would have before.

If you have a smart phone or other mobile device, you may be able to find some great word of the day programs apps, as well. This is something that is more convenient for some people, simply because you will have the word and the definition with you, to look at through the day. The whole point of a word of the day program is that you learn and understand the new vocabulary, and are able to use it.

Another option that many people have turned to is to just find a paper dictionary, open it up, and blindly point to a word. This will allow you to have a little more control over the words that you use. The problem with this method is that many people will dismiss words that they don’t like, don’t understand, or just don’t feel like using.

A Look at The Wizard of Oz

There are a huge variety of ebooks out there. In fact, you can now generally find almost any book that you would read in hard cover or paperback has an ebook version as well.

When you think about classic literature, there are many things that come to mind. First, there are the stories that you read, or were read to you, when you were a child. There are also the books that you had to read in English class in high school. One of the most famous and popular of the classics is The Wizard of Oz series by L. Frank Baum.

Many people know the basic story of Dorothy being picked up by a tornado and put down in Oz. After that, she has adventure after adventure. Unfortunately, a large number of people know the story from the movie that was made in 1939 and starred Judy Garland. Most, in fact, do not realize that there is a whole series dedicated to the wonderful and fantastical world of Oz.

You can actually get all of the Oz series through ebook, and in fact, you can get most, if not all of them for free. Having these books available to read at the touch of a button is opening the world of Oz to many more people than ever before. It is not just children or parents that are reading these books. Though they are aimed toward a younger audience, most adults find that they get a great deal of entertainment through these books, as well.

Finding these ebooks is extremely easy. In fact, you can find them on almost any website that you would find other ebooks, as well. You can get the books individually, or you can also find collections that have more than one of the books together. This is a great opportunity to delve into a mystical world that has entranced audiences for over a hundred years.

There is a big push today to go electronic. In a large number of areas of our lives, life becomes much easier when we digitize and go electronic. This is seeping into our reading, as well. More and more companies are offering electronic book, or ebook, readers. These allow you to read a huge variety of books that you purchase and download, on the go.

There are many reasons that ebook readers have become extremely popular, and that their popularity continues to grow. First, many people today like to stay connected. They want to keep everything electronic – it is just easier. On top of that, we have become a very mobile society. We are almost always on the move. Because of this, it can be difficult to find the time to go to the bookstore, find the book that you want, purchase it, and then actually take the time to relax and read it. This is where the convenience of an ebook reader can come in.

With most ebook readers, you can actually do a search and purchase your books right on the reader itself. This cuts out a lot of the hassle time that purchasing a book normally takes. If this is not available on your ebook reader, you can also purchase your books online, and have them downloaded to your mobile device. This saves reader a large amount of time and energy.

Ebook readers are also very portable devices. Many people that have them say that they are, in fact, much easier than a traditional paper book. They are small enough to carry around without any trouble, but large enough to be able to read the screen. You also don’t have to worry about lugging around your book, having it get lost, or even ripping. You can carry thousands of books on one device, and not worry about the problems of a more traditional book.
