Learning to write is one of the most important things that you learn as a child. Writing is an integral part of our world, and those that are not able to write have a very difficult time. Writing is not only something that you have to do at school, instead, it is almost a way of life. We write for almost everything today.

When you communicate with other people, unless you are directly talking to them, you will be writing. Especially with the advent of the Internet, more and more people are going to written communication as their norm. In fact, even companies are doing this today. Instead of going to talk to someone in your office, you may find that instead, you get an email, or an instant message.

Being able to write correctly is extremely important. In fact, it may be just as important as being able to write at all. Incorrect grammar, spelling, punctuation, and sentence structure shows that you are an educated person. It is extremely difficult to get a job in this day and age if you are unable to effectively communicate through writing.

With the popularity of things like “text speech” and “leet speak”, the art of correct writing may seem like it is being lost. Many short cuts are taken today when communicating with others. This is detrimental to those that take the short cuts. Taking short cuts in your written communications can, at first, seem like a way to save time and energy, but in the long run, it not only makes others see you as uneducated, it can also make your directions or communication unclear.

Learning how to write correctly and effectively is as important, if not more so, than learning how to read. The two go hand in hand. It is also extremely important to take these lessons into account, and use them on a daily basis.
